Status

Post Production - pending closing documents [Application is in production but paperwork is not complete]

99% complete, updated on Thu 9/7/23 2:25 PM by Lance Rivera

Changed Status from Monitoring & Controlling to Post Production - pending closing documents.
Changed Percent Complete from 85% to 99%.

  • The Dental Hygiene grant and associated project is now complete.
  • This site will be used to make the deliverables available to other Texas institutions which is mandated by the grant.
  •  Link to the deliverables:
  • The main product is the .apk file which is loaded manually onto the headsets and does not require a connection to the network.
  • Since not everyone has the ability to view the simulation on a headset, we do have walk-through videos that shows screen recordings of the app.
  • Pending closing docs

Please provide your goals and objectives this solution will accomplish for your department.
Texas State Technical College (TSTC) is seeking a firm to develop virtual reality simulations built for the HTC Vive Focus 3 headsets at the Harlingen campus. This VR experience will simulate the radiology and instrumentation that will be used in our Dental Hygiene curricula. The simulations will be used by students to practice radiology and instrumentation procedures on virtual patients. The supplier will work with the Extended Reality Project Manager and Subject Matter Experts to develop the simulation(s) and to configure the simulation grading criteria.
List your primary requirements for this solution.
Please list your primary requirements for this solution.
The main module that we are pursuing is a virtual reality simulation that allows students to learn and
work with the radiology equipment. This module will be broken up into two sections: a guided practice and an assessment. The guided practice will walk students through the terms, equipment, and processes. Students will then take an assessment. They will be able to take the assessment an unlimited amount of times so they can fine tune their skills. The assessment will allow students to take an x-ray of a virtual patient and review the x-ray to make sure it is of good quality.
Do you have funding for this project? If so, please provide the amount.

Description

A Perkins Grant was accepted and money received to build VR software for the Dental Hygiene program. Currently, students practicing radiology can only take a limited amount of X-Rays due to the dangerous nature of the practice. However, there is a need for students to gain more lab hours with the equipment. This is where virtual reality made a good fit - it allows students to gain lab experience with the equipment in a safe environment.
