Google Chat External User Limitations

The Purpose of this article is to detail the limitations of Google Chat while communicating with external users (such as mymail). 

• Google chat can only be used with a Google account, including @gmail.com, @tstc.edu and @mymail.tstc.edu.
• Invited external users get an email invitation rather than being added directly. The "chat roste"r and "browse rooms" screen will show the invitation. 
• Users in GSuite organizations that haven't turned on Chat arent reachable through chat. Google Chat must be turned on for external users in their own organization. 
• Existing internal only rooms cannot be converted to rooms that allow external users. The room must be recreated and the external checkbox must be selected (see below):

• You cannot add an external user to a group message. You can only chat with external users in a 1 to 1 direct message or in external rooms.
