Are you using Google Chats and Hangouts, and tired of getting notifications on both applications about the same chats?
Do you keep your Email page open and continuously see new chat notifications open despite also having the Chat application open?
This article is geared toward disabling Google Hangouts within the Gmail page itself.
- Open your browser of choice (for this article I will be using Google Chrome, but the steps will be the same for other browsers)
- Navigate to your Gmail page
- On the top, right hand side of the page, select the gear icon (example A)
- Open "See all settings"
- Navigate to "Chat and Meet" (example B)
- Select the "Hangouts off" radio button
- Select "Save Changes"
Your Gmail tab or window will now refresh, and you should notice immediately that the Hangout sidebar is no longer available. (example C)
